"Heaven Received an Angel...
To all our Friends of New Life,alex1

It's hard to understand sometimes, but I've learned to trust! It was so hard to leave "my little Alex this week. The bonding and attachment was beyond words. Our love for him grew day by day as we all held him and cared for him through his grueling battle to survive the pain and agony of a little body that should never have known the fight to survive. I held him so close to me for three weeks, watching him slowly make progress, only to fall back again & again. He didn't want to be put down, so we all took turns holding him. It was alex3hard for me to leave him last Tuesday. Even packing, he wanted me to hold him. I laid on the bed with his little body clinging to me as he fell asleep. We had just done his blood work. He was severely anemic, so we made arrangements with our pediatrician to admit him for a blood transfusion. Leaving was hard. I had wanted to see his first smile, but knew it would come later. I had team members bringing him toys and more nutritional supplements. We were all excited about his progress. Our New Life nurse stayed with him day and night. Although he had not yet received his transfusion, the doctors said he was making progress until the early hours of this morning. None of the doctors understood, as last night he was fine but this morning began to vomit with intense diarrhea. The news came hard...

"Little Alex passed away...Yes, Heaven received a little angel!" Everyone in Haiti and here is grieving. I had to tell Daniel and Gesnel, which was difficult for us all. Then words of comfort came from Gesnel, even in his heartache for him, he said, "But just think! Now he will see his Mommy!" She had passed away in January from cholera, leaving four children.alex2

Strange...just last night I had a dream. I was with him, feeding him and playing with him. He smiled at me for the first time! I exclaimed, "I got a smile, finally, he smiled!" Gesnel said, calling me "Mimi" as the kids do, "Mimi, maybe that's when he saw Jesus and just think, now he will see his Mama. "

Thank you for your prayers. I take comfort always that the many children who we have had to bury, before they died, knew what it was to be comforted, loved and held.

Now he is well and whole, safe in the arms of Jesus...and his Mom.

Alex, we will always love you!
Miriam
