I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each one of you who have given your prayers and donations for hurricane relief. We are dealing with so much severe malnutrition in these remote areas from lack of food. The hurricane has severely compounded the problem with the loss of what few crops they had and the heavy rains bringing Cholera back to the area. We are loading trucks with food, clothes, shoes, tarps, and medicine and leaving Sunday to search out the worst areas. We brought in thirteen kids over a week ago and most have made remarkable improvement with the exception of the two worst ones. An eight year old boy died and we lost our little three year old last night in the hospital. It was very hard watching what they go through. It's one thing to pass away from incurable diseases in good hospitals, knowing that you did all you can. That is a hard enough battle for anyone, but for a child to die an excruciating death from hunger is senseless. We need your prayers desperately. We have mapped out a strategic plan that will begin immediately and with faith, we are praying that God will raise up concerned partners that will assist us. In the mountains, we have identified three strategic locations to set up feeding programs several times a week. These will also give medical attention, including dispensing worm medicine and vitamins. Our plans are to build a home called the Alex House in memory of Alex and all of the children who have passed away. Their death will not be in vain as this home can rescue and save many children. The most critical will come to New Life, but the ones approaching serious condition will have a chance to be treated locally. Two other small dispensaries will be placed as we did in the Cholera crisis, saving many as people had access to care when normally they would die on the long road to Pestel. Because finances are needed, we must start one at a time, and we do believe that we have heard from God to take the lead and so to speak, step out of the boat into the water. Because we are in such crisis, we have an old building in Joligebert that we can fix up for approximately $10.000. This would cover the installation of windows and a good tin roof, to put in beds, purchase food, medication and supplies and to hire nurses and helpers. With permission of our head of construction at New Life, Ricky Bain, we are taking our Haitian contractor with us Sunday to evaluate and get started ASAP. No funds will be used from New Life Children's Home, as every dollar is needed to sustain our many children, most of which have come from this same area over the years. We ask please that no one detour funds from New Life. Donations for this specific project should be earmarked Alex Home and Malnutrition Program. There will be set up needs, then food and meds to sustain. This will be crucial. The set up fee for each center including a pavilion, food depot, and benches is $8,000. The cost per month is $558.00 per center. The Alex house, which will come eventually, will be approximately. $40.000. We will give you reports on this trip this weekend and we ask for your prayers please. Too many have already died, and although we can't save them all, we can try to rescue and save as many as possible. We will seek them out. Blessings, Miriam Love has no borders ..You have never really lived ..until you have done something for someone who can never repay you ....
